The RUF is on fire.

This is not a normal car. It's not a normal sports car either. It's not even a normal Porsche. What this is, is a nasty yellow manifestation of a severely mad man's vision. The mad man in question is Alois Ruf Jr, a German fellow with no respect for established automotive traditions. You see, when every other sports car manufacturer in the world respected Porsche's status as a class leader and kept pretty much out of their way since the seventies, Alois Jr did not. He ventured to kick Porsche's behind. So what did he do it with? Well, another Porsche, actually.

He took what was basically the greatest sports car of its time and made it even wilder. This was proven pretty blatantly with the RUF CTR, which not only put the contemporary Porsche 911 Turbo to shame but also every other car in the world, at least in speed terms. If you google "Fastest Production Cars" you will find a Wikipedia-page with a car listed for every year. Look at the year 1987. It says "Ferrari F40", right? Well, a Ferrari enthusiast probably wrote that. Because the CTR "Yellowbird" would keep up with the F40 all the way to its top speed of 325 km/h, and keep on going all the way to a staggering 340 km/h..!

But RUF had no intention of stopping there. Even though McLaren had hit the stage with its all-carbon-fibre super-slick F1, killing the speed competition with a top speed of 372 km/h, Alois proved that a Porsche body was capable of amazing feats. The CTR2 could reach 350 km/h without hesitation.

Ten years on, the top speed lunacy was abandoned in favor of other dynamic attributes. And, of course, Bugatti Veyron set the bench mark so high that every car manufacturer in its right mind (thereby excluding SSC Ultimate Aero) found it futile to even attempt such figures. But RUF lives on, and with quite a model range. The car you see here is a RTurbo, with a top speed in excess of 350 km/h as a result of more than 600 horsepowers hitting the rear wheels.

An awesome car from an awesome company.

Automotive photography served with a side of motoring journalism

This blog has been created as a general creative outlet both photowise and writing. I try to emphasize the dramatic aspects of my photo objects in various ways, and if I have anything to say about them (or other things), I probably will. Please feel free to leave a comment. Enjoy..!
